Help preserve the rural community of Dixie, Canyon County, Idaho.
Dixie, Idaho
Dixie is the first permanent white settlement in Idaho state. Located in western Canyon County along the Boise River and on the Old Oregon Trail, the community was established in 1863-64 during the American Civil War by displaced southerners who, after being driven from their homelands, fled that bitter conflict.
Threatened by an onslaught of gravel mining industrialists granted nonconforming special use permits by order of county officials, today our community, zoned "Agriculture," is being destroyed, its residents displaced, livestock industry eliminated, wildlife driven off, landscape demolished, river and drinking waters polluted, air made unsafe to breathe, and roadways unsafe to travel.
What's Fair In This War
Dangers abound; public safeguards are nonexistent. West Nile Virus is prevalent; mosquito breeding tailing ponds are ignored. Narrow, inadequate rural roads and a railroad crossing are reportedly no danger. A nearby school and other surrounding properties "will not be affected." Fencing and heavy-industrial project warning signs are not required. Residents' objections and valid concerns are ignored. The flood plain and wetlands are a non-issue. Fire protection and emergency services are 10-miles distant. Laws and ordinances are violated. False testimony and evidence is presented and accepted. Appeals for justice denied.
